Every day in Berkeley, tens of thousand of people walking to work and school are put in harms way, many by distracted drivers and some due to their own distractions. And unfortunately some die. It's all preventable, but it's up to all of us. Every hour a pedestrian is injured or killed in California. In fact, recent data shows that 23 percent of all traffic collision fatalities were pedestrians. That is more than 75 percent above the national average. To address this deadly statistic, in March 2015 a local group of residents, law enforcement and advocacy organizations launched a new “It’s Up to All of Us” public education campaign to remind residents to create a safer environment for pedestrians. |
